EvenFlo has recalled the infant car seat and carrier for babies and small children. There have been nearly 700 reports of the car seat and carrier malfunctioning causing numerous injuries. The product has malfunctioned by allowing the handle to improperly release and the carrier rotate forward allowing the possibility of the baby to fall out according to sources. http://safety.evenflo.com/cs/sc/cssc99_RD.phtml?rid=EFR18&src=WEB

The recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). (To access color photos of the following recalled products, see CPSC's Web site at www.cpsc.gov.) Resulting injuries have included scrapes, cuts, abrasions, bruising, concussions, and even skull fractures.

The recalled car seat/carriers have model numbers beginning with 317, 320, 397, 398, 540, 548, 549, 550, 556, 597, 598 or 599. Information can be found on a white label on the bottom of the carrier and on the top of the convenience base. These products have been sold in stores nationwide and were sold during the period of December 2004 through September 2006 for between $70 and $100 when sold by themselves and between $140 and $200 when sold with a stroller. State law or federal law may afford you or your loved ones legal protection for an injury resulting from defective products.
